It was at the Marché du Midi in St-Gilles, in 2017, that the initial idea took seed in the minds of the founders of the association.
At the close of this market, huge quantities of fruit and vegetables deemed unsaleable by the merchants are thrown away.
Shocked by the extent of the waste, they launched Fruitopia Brussels and its "Circular Cannery" hub.
They recover unsold fruit and vegetables from organic distribution in Brussels to transform them into jams, chutneys and other long-life products. These are then redistributed in the same stores - the cycle is complete.
Canned foods from Fruitopia Brussels, are a creative and tasty solution in the fight against food waste.
